To ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results, blood specimens should be collected and dispatched to the laboratory on the same day of collection.
Overnight storage of uncentrifuged blood specimens at clinics is not recommended. Where such specimens are stored overnight, testing may be accepted for analytes not listed below; however, these specimens are considered outside recommended pre-analytical conditions. The submitting clinic assumes responsibility for specimen storage conditions, and the laboratory does not guarantee the validity or reliability of results derived from such specimens. Specimens may still be rejected upon receipt if integrity is compromised.
The following tests are particularly sensitive to storage-related changes and must not be stored overnight under any circumstances:
